Street Art Workshop, Alia Ecovillage, As-Salt, 17 to 19 May 2023
Desert Bloom intern Marlene writes about her participation in the “Street Art and Healing Art Workshop” organized by URI MENA.
I would like to reflect on my extraordinary and transformative experience in the Street Art Workshop, which was sponsored by the URI MENA Office in cooperation with Desert Bloom. Throughout this workshop, I had the privilege of not only learning about art materials and techniques but also delving into a deeper understanding of myself and the complexities of human emotions. The primary objective of the workshop was to explore and harness the healing power of art, and it surpassed all expectations in achieving this goal.
One of the key objectives of the Street Art Workshop was to provide participants with a platform to explore their inner selves and gain insight into their personal experiences and emotions. Through the process of creating street art, participants were encouraged to express their thoughts, feelings, and traumas in a visual form, allowing for catharsis and self-reflection. The workshop served as a catalyst for personal growth, as each participant embarked on a journey of self-discovery through their artwork.
Unwavering openness
In addition to self-exploration, the workshop aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge about art materials and techniques. By offering guidance and instruction on various artistic methods, participants were empowered to expand their artistic horizons and develop their skills. This objective allowed participants to not only express themselves but also to refine their artistic abilities and gain a deeper appreciation for the craft.
However, what truly made this workshop exceptional and successful were the remarkable individuals who took part in it. Witnessing their unwavering openness, trust in the workshop’s team and the collective group, and their incredible inspiration was truly inspiring. The participants’ willingness to share their stories and artistic expressions created an atmosphere of vulnerability, acceptance, and mutual support. This sense of community and collaboration was an integral part of the workshop’s objectives, fostering an environment where participants could connect with one another on a profound level.
Personal growth and healing
Throughout the duration of the workshop, I had the privilege of observing the personal growth and transformation of each participant. As they delved into their artwork and engaged in the process of painting and meditation, a whole new dimension of healing through art was revealed. The combination of creative expression and introspective practices allowed participants to tap into their inner strength, confront their individual traumas, and embark on a journey of healing and empowerment. Witnessing this transformation was a testament to the workshop’s objective of providing a space for personal growth and healing through art.
The opportunity to connect with these incredible individuals, who exuded strength and served as an inspiration to others, left me with gratitude. Their stories and artistic expressions touched me deeply, and I felt privileged to be a part of such a wonderful workshop. This experience not only expanded my understanding of the healing power of art but also reinforced the importance of community, empathy, and the profound impact that art can have on individuals and society as a whole.
