In a powerful demonstration of interfaith solidarity and environmental stewardship, the ACT Alliance Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region hosted a transformative three-day regional workshop on climate justice, biodiversity conservation, and creation care from April 28 to 30, 2025, in Amman, Jordan. The event, co-organized by the ACT MENA Climate Justice Community of Practice and the MENA Faith-Based Actors for Climate Justice Group, brought together over 20 faith-based organizations to share initiatives, exchange best practices, and plan collaborations. Participants emphasized the critical role of faith-based leadership in addressing the climate crisis, particularly when political action is insufficient. Key discussions covered Loss and Damage, regional power dynamics, ecotheology, and community-based climate risk assessments.
Outcomes included a stronger regional network, recognition of grassroots impact, and the launch of new advocacy and creation care collaborations, marking a significant step towards deeper regional coordination in the faith-based response to climate change.
URI-MENA was proud to be among the participating organizations, contributing to discussions that emphasized the vital role of faith-based grassroots leadership in responding to the global climate crisis.
This gathering marked a significant step forward in building a more coordinated and impactful faith-based response to climate change in the MENA region. By centering values of justice, equity, and spiritual responsibility, the workshop laid the foundation for deeper collaboration at the regional and global levels.
