Madaba Unites for a Greener Future: “Green Mosaic” Initiative Blooms on World Environment Day

Madaba, Jordan – On Sunday, June 15, 2025, Madaba experienced a burst of environmental energy as the “Madaba Green Mosaic” initiative began. This project was a joint effort by the Equality for Training and Human Rights CC, the United Religions Initiative-MENA (URI-MENA), and the Greater Madaba Municipality. It kicked off in celebration of World Environment Day. More than just planting trees, this initiative aimed to significantly improve green spaces in Madaba Governorate while raising environmental awareness and promoting community diversity.

The initiative took place at the park connected to the Ahmad Al-Qatish Hall. It saw enthusiastic participation from the municipality’s Agricultural Department, including Vice Mayor Ms. Basma Al-Slayta, along with various civil society representatives. This wide engagement showcased a spirit of teamwork and shared responsibility for the environment.

Dr. Hiba Haddadin, Director of the Equality for Training and Human Rights, emphasized the initiative’s dual goals: expanding Madaba’s green areas and educating the community about how important afforestation is in fighting pollution. “This event was designed to be hands-on and community-driven,” she said. “We focused on encouraging dialogue between generations and promoting social diversity as key elements of environmental sustainability.”

Under the inspiring slogan “We Plant Together, We Learn Together,” people of all ages and backgrounds teamed up to plant a variety of drought-resistant local trees and seedlings. Interactive educational stations allowed participants to share insights about the benefits of afforestation and the critical role of biodiversity in creating a sustainable environment.

Eng. Mohammad Al-Ma’ay’a, Director of the Agricultural Department, stressed the broader vision. “We believe that a healthy environment starts with a thoughtful and connected community,” he said. “The ‘Madaba Green Mosaic’ initiative is not just about planting trees; it’s a strong example of social unity, bringing together individuals from different generations and backgrounds to work together for a better environmental future for Madaba.”

This important project directly supports the goals of the United Religions Initiative (URI) by promoting dialogue and knowledge sharing among generations and diverse backgrounds. The “Madaba Green Mosaic” goes beyond a typical environmental campaign. It is becoming a lively platform that enhances social unity, deepens mutual understanding, and builds a local community that is aware and responsible toward the environment in Madaba.
